My first camera was a Russian Zenit 12 XP.
When i was an undergrad in college, I added a photography class to my schedule because I needed an “EASY” class. I’ve use the compact 35 film cameras that my mother had. No big deal. Little did I know, you actually needed a SLR camera to participate in the class. I know, silly me. No one that I knew had a SLR camera, until I reached the oldest person that I knew. My grandmother.
To my surprise, she actually had a SLR camera. She shipped it to me and in a week I had my new camera. It was a Russian Zenit 12XP.
I looked at the top of the camera and had no idea what any of these controls were for. I figured out how to put film in the camera after 3 wasted rolls. I showed up to class after getting my new camera ready to shoot!
Now I had no idea about light and seeing the light, shutter speed, aperture. Its possible that my teacher taught us about it, but it went in one ear and out the other.
I shot any and everything that I saw. Shoes, snow, Ice, grass, bricks, signs, if you it was visible, I was shooting it.
Here’s some of my early film shots:
Today, I love to shoot sports, people and landscapes. Guess I knew that from the beginning.
After a while, I went digital and I picked up the Nikon D5100, then graduated the Nikon D7100 then graduated the Nikon D4
What was the first camera you used?
