If you’re planning an outdoor photo shoot, you know how important it is to find out the direction of the sun in the location you plan to shoot.
The location of the sun allows you to use it as a Key light, Fill light or rim light based on how you position your subject. Or if your planning on catching the sunrise or sunset for landscape photography, you will want to know where the sun will be located at.
I used to scout locations online and have to guess where the sun will possibly be at the time of my shoot, However, I would arrive to my location and the sun was in a totally different location than I thought.
In comes the Sun Seeker App for iPhone (also available for android).
This app allows me to see where the sun is going to be at any location at any time during the day. This helps me with planning tremendously.
You are able to put a location in the search parameters and the app will give you a map location of the address with a sun map showing you the location of the sun at a given time.
The app also allows you to see a real time 3D view of your current location. You can see a Sun line in this view and as you turn around you can follow the path of the sun. (I’ll add a video of it later)
The Sun Seeker App for iPhone has been added to my scouting tool kit. I love the ease of use of the app and that it helps me scout faster.
I am not sure what all the functions of the app do, but for what I need, it gets the job done.
